From February 1, 2025, cooperation within the 2M alliance (MSC and Maersk), which controls a significant part of the global container shipping market, will be terminated.
What changes to expect:
- Maersk joins forces with Hapag-Lloyd in a new alliance called Gemini Cooperation.
- ONE, HMM and Yang Ming are joining forces to form the Premier Alliance.
- MSC will continue to operate independently, signing contracts with Premier Alliance (on routes between Asia and Europe) and ZIM (on routes between Asia and North America).
In general, the outlook is promising because:
- Departure schedules are being modified.
- Competition will increase.
- The number of offers on the market will increase.
- Transportation efficiency will increase.
We expect the predicted improvements. However, we should not forget that the transition period can be difficult due to temporary disruptions associated with the reorganization of routes.
